There is a simple, yet profound, story found in the book of Jeremiah in the Bible. It's a small story from the prophet's life... but it has a huge impact for those who embrace it's truth. God spoke to Jeremiah and told him to go down to the potter's house. When he got there, he saw the craftsman working some clay on the wheel. He watched him spinning the wet clay... shaping it, forming it under the skilled touch of his hands, creating with it a vessel he could use. As Jeremiah watched he saw that something had gone amiss with the clay pot. An air bubble, a crack, a rough spot - we don't know what. Whatever it was, it was not what the potter wanted, so he squished the pot back down into a shapeless lump... and began to remake it the way he wanted it. As Jeremiah looked on this scene, God spoke to him - "Like the clay in the potter's hand, so are you in mine."
The verse in Jeremiah where we read those words is 18:6. eighteensix ministries has grown out of the conviction that life is lived best on the Potter's Wheel - yielded to the hands of God, the Great Potter himself. It is the goal, the purpose, the vision of eighteensix to encourage and equip people to find their place on the Potter's Wheel and to grow through their interaction with God. Through the written word, the spoken word, and through life coaching I hope to do just that. In our lives, we are to be like clay in the hands of the Potter - moldable, shapable, usable, yeilding under God's skilled and loving touch. We are to keep ourselves on God's Potter's wheel... so he can make us who he wants us to be. eighteensix ministries has grown out of the pastoral ministry of Paul Dawson. |
Your Highest Purpose
Your highest purpose is... to know the God whose hands formed you, to yield to His arms that draw you, to hear His voice that calls you, to follow His will that guides you, to trust His grace that keeps you, And to seek his heart that loves you. - Roy Lessin |
